Abstract

The Donald Lab has developed a protein-redesign algorithm called K* ("K star"). In this dissertation we propose to extend K* and use it to redesign an antibiotic. The novel antibiotic that we propose to create will be designed to combat a particular strain of antibiotic-resistant Gram positive bacteria. We further propose to use K* to redesign the microbial proteins that will be the machinery that will then biosynthesize this novel antibiotic.
